About Us
The Blades of Fyre and Sparks of Fyre are two synchronized skating teams that skate out of the Saint John Skating Club, coached and choreographed by Kim MacVey. The two teams are composed of 29 skaters from southern New Brunswick, including Saint John, the Kennebecasis Valley, Sussex and St. Andrews. Skaters on the Pre-Juvenile team, Sparks of Fyre, range in age from 7 years to 11 years old. The Pre-Novice team, Blades of Fyre, range in age from 12 years to 22 years. Most team members are also singles skaters.
In 2003, the Sparks of Fyre were New Brunswick silver medalists. In 2004, they were Provincial and Eastern Canadian Pre-Juvenile Champions.
The Blades of Fyre were Eastern Canadian Silver medalists in 2002, New Brunswick Silver Medalists in 2003, and New Brunswick bronze medalists in 2004. This team performed at the Old Timers Hockey Challenge at Harbour Station in 2004 and will be performing again this year on January 10, 2005.
Both teams also performed at a Region 4 ice show in St. Andrews in December, 2003, with Shawn Sawyer as the headline skater. The teams have also performed at Ice Shows / Carnivals in St. Andrews, Saint John, Kennebecasis Valley and Sussex.

What is Synchronized Skating?
Synchronized Skating (previously known as "Precision Skating") is different from all other parts of figure skating. This form of skating is becoming one of the fastest growing competitive sports on the world stage and represents Teamwork at its finest. Synchronized skating takes the classical, graceful movements of figure skating, and combines it with the thrill of split second maneuvers.
Synchronized Skating involves a Team of 12-24 skaters who perform various moves such as kick lines, blocks, circles, pinwheels and various other difficult moves. All of these moves are choreographed to various pieces of music chosen by the Team coach.
The importance of precision skating is unison, accuracy of formations and synchronization of the Team.
